Calligraphy means beautiful writing. It comes from the Greek words “Kallos”  means beauty and “Graphien” means to write. Edward Johnston (a British craftsman) is regarded as being the father of modern calligraphy. Calligraphy is a visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering with a pen, ink brush or other writing instruments. A contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as  “ the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious and skillful manner”.

Cadet  College Spinkai (SWTD) not only nourishes and quenches the thirst of curricular and co-curricular activities of its cadets but grooms them in extra-curricular activities as well. The college, in the same way, nurtures the potential qualities of the cadets through physical and artistic projects like art and calligraphy to understand aesthetic beauty of nature through the art of calligraphy and painting. Calligraphy club endeavors to polish the concealed ability of cadets to explore in the arena of drawing and painting.

CALLIGRAPHY CLUB:

Calligraphy club determines   “The club which develops the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush”.

Here are some of the chief benefits, the calligraphy club possesses;

• To meditate and relax the individual
• To become most creative by using their hands
• To promote critical thinking
• To develop motor skills and memory attention
• To gain confidence

These are some of the reasons why we are trying to build-up the skills of art and calligraphy in our cadets. We have experienced all of the benefits during the teaching-learning process and we want to share them with our cadets.
